Mackenzie Rose Midwifery offers a unique hands on holistic and evidenced based model of care that blends the ancient art of midwifery with current research and brest practices. You're embarking on a life changing experience and I am here to support not just your physical well being but also your emotional and psychological well being during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Prenatal Care

I believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life events that are best supported by the individualized and skilled care of a licensed midwife. In order to provide this one on one individualized care, I accept a limited amount of clients per month. I also offer a blend of in-home and office appointments customized to you and your family’s needs.

I encourage you to begin care as early as possible however, I welcome clients into care at any point along your pregnancy journey. If you have been seeing an OB, I make the transfer of care into my practice easy and seamless. In addition, I also offer concurrent care to those who want to see both an OB and a Midwife.

Mackenzie Rose Midwifery offers:

  • Free initial 30-60 min consult. This is a great opportunity find out all about the midwifery model of care and how I practice as a midwife. Midwifery fosters a unique relationship between client and provider. It is important to have a care provider you feel safe and comfortable with so I encourage you to ask any and all questions.

  • Intake appointment:

    • At this appointment you will be set up with an account through ClientCare, the electronic medical records system I use.

    • We will review and sign all of the necessary paperwork

    • Initial lab work will be drawn and a gentle head-to-toe physical will be done.

  • Routine prenatal appointments are:

    • Every 4 weeks during weeks 1-28

    • Every week from week 37 until the birth of your baby

  • Direct phone/text access 24 hours a day

Each appointment is 30-60+ minutes long. This gives us time to discus any questions you have, to educate you about what is going on in your body and how your baby is developing, and explore ways to further support you and your growing baby. I check in on how you are doing with nutrition, how you are sleeping, what amount of exercise you are getting, any emotional changes that are taking place, and if you are getting adequate family and community support .

One of my favorite aspects of midwifery care is normalizing birth for those who are nearest and dearest to you. I am open to siblings, partners, and others being as involved as you feel comfortable.

As your midwife, I want you to feel confident in your choices and empowered by your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. The care at Mackenzie Rose Midwifery is collaborative. This means we discuss every test and procedure so that you feel that you are making a fully informed decision about your unique health care needs.

Labor and birth support

When labor starts, we will be in close communication. I typically provide in person midwifery support beginning in active labor. I work with several trained midwifery assistants and make every effort to have them at your birth. I believe that two sets of skilled hands are better than one!

During your labor, I will be checking the baby’s heartbeat with a waterproof handheld fetal doppler to ensure that baby is doing well and things are progressing smoothly. I will also check your vital signs throughout labor to make sure that you continue to stay healthy and low risk. Additionally, I bring with me all the supplies, emergency equipment, and medications needed to handle newborn resuscitation or postpartum hemorrhage.

In labor you are encouraged to eat and drink, rest and move around as you desire. You are free to birth in any position you feel comfortable. Many babies in my practice are born in the water and many babies in my practice are born on land. As this is your birth and your baby you are welcome to catch your baby or have your partner catch your baby.

Once your baby has been born I encourage skin-to-skin bonding. It is routine policy in my practice to facilitate delayed cord clamping. I typically stay for 3-4 hours, making sure you and baby are stable and that baby is latching well. I will assess for any perineal tears and will suture if needed. A couple hours after the birth, I will perform a head-to-toe, front to back, newborn exam. Before I leave, I will make sure your house is clean and the only evidence of a home birth is your band new baby curled up in your arms.

Check out the Frequently Asked Questions page for more info about all things labor and birth, from water birth to how I keep your place spotless to all the different sizes of homes and apartments babies have been born in.

Babies should be treated with the utmost respect, dignity, and love. Their first birth minutes are their welcome to the planet. This is where they will first learn what being on earth is all about.

Postpartum Care

Midwives shine at postpartum care with frequent visits specifically designed to support a smooth transition into parenthood.

I provide postpartum appointments in your home at approximately 24-48 hours after your birth, on day 3-5, at 7-10 days, at 4 weeks, and at 6 weeks postpartum.

At each postpartum visit I makes sure that you and baby are both healthy and doing well. I check both your vitals, I make sure that breast/chest-feeding is going well, that baby is gaining appropriate weight, and that your body is healing. I also will assess for any postpartum anxiety or depression, and make sure that you are resting and receiving the family and or community support that you and baby need.

During one of our postpartum visits I will assist you in filling out all the necessary paperwork for you to get baby’s birth certificate and social security card.

During this postpartum period, you will continue to have 24 hour access to me via phone/text.

PLACENTA PROCESSING

Once your placenta has been birthed I offer the following additional services:

  • Placenta Encapsulation

  • Placenta Tincture

  • Placenta Print
